Celebrating a decade of Gibson Houston
This year marks a major milestone – 10 years since Gibson opened its Houston office. Over the past decade, the office has become a vital part of Gibson’s global presence. We spoke to Oliver Harvey, Clean West Broker, Gibson Houston , to discuss the office’s successes and what’s behind its achievements.
What have been some of the Houston office’s standout achievements over the past decade?
The team has done exceptionally well, even during tough market conditions. Despite being relatively small, we’ve often had some of the busiest brokers in the company. That’s something we’re really proud of.
One thing that stands out is the consistent recognition we’ve received for operational excellence thanks to Jamie Ostwald and Petter Huus. We’ve built a reputation for reliability, which is invaluable in this business. And of course, weathering the ups and downs of the market while still performing strongly is a huge achievement in itself.
What do you think are the key factors that have led to the Houston team’s achievements over the last 10 years?
It’s the people that make the difference. It’s about adaptability and having a strong team ethos. We’ve always kept the team lean but highly effective, which lets us respond quickly to changes in the market. This has allowed us to carve out niches that are now synonymous with Gibson Houston. Being a close-knit group fosters collaboration, and that’s been key to consistently delivering our best, even during challenging times.
How has the office evolved to meet Houston’s market demands?
One of the biggest recent developments has been adding a Crude/DPP desk, which has strengthened our capabilities to bolster the CCP team with myself and Sam Ross. We’ve also brought on experienced brokers like Blake Stasa and Han Han, and more recently Dave McCann who’ve made a big impact. With these additions, we’re in an even better position to serve the diverse and ever changing needs of the Houston market.
Houston has become an increasingly important location particularly in CPP and DPP. Our office is key to providing around-the-clock coverage across time zones. We’ve also taken on a more analytical role, offering insights that support other Gibson offices globally.
Any final thoughts on the future of Gibson Houston?
The next decade holds so much potential. We’re focused on growth, but also on staying true to what’s made us successful: being adaptable, maintaining a strong team, and always putting the needs of our clients first.
